MRO Buyer

Summary:  The MRO Buyer is responsible for the sourcing of materials, components and services to support cross functional departments (Manufacturing, Distribution & Maintenance).  This position is responsible for managing inventory & controlling costs of non-BOM components, associated consumables and equipment critical spare parts.  The position will also be responsible for managing our waste disposal both internal and external.


Duties to include (not limited to):

  • Identify, evaluate and select MRO suppliers, considering pricing, integrity and capability to supply as needed.
  • Engages in negotiations of cost reductions, discounts, terms and delivery with MRO suppliers with consideration to volumes and annual spending.
  • Ensures best sourcing decisions through competitive bidding and comparative analysis.
  • Maintains purchasing activity records for routine MRO materials, supplies, services and contracts.
  • Processes and issues purchase orders and assures follow-up and timely delivery of all MRO supplies.
  • Provide accurate commitment dates and lead-times.
  • Define and managing processes for Inventory Management.
  • Service inquiries on orders, invoices, and vendor programs.
  • Maintain proper inventory levels to maximize turns, while avoiding product back-orders
  • Assist in new vendor set-up and product/program launches.
  • Manage waste disposal both internal and external.
  • Cost control and synergies purchasing between multiple groups (PPE, consumables, CSP, Etc.).
  • Work with vendors to minimize leadtimes, reduce costs, and expedite orders.
  • Ability to work on continuous improvement projects.


A Buyer will possess and/or demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of purchasing and distribution best practices.
    • Experience in the field of construction and/or building materials is a plus.
  • Ability to process and manipulate data.
  • Proficient with purchasing software: placing orders, item set-up/maintenance, and tracking shipments.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills regarding teamwork and servicing our customers.
  • Knowledge of WSC operations and procedures.
  • Developed oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Enthusiasm and a positive approach to problem solving.



  • High school diploma required, however, a bachelors’ degree in field related to supply chain is highly preferred.
  • 3+ years of procurement or supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
    • APICS Certified (CPIM or CSCP) is a plus.
