Senior Manager - Operational Excellence

SUMMARY:   The Senior Manager – Operational Excellence own the design and setting the productivity agenda aligned with financial and CAPEX targets for Distribution.  The Senior Manager – Operational Excellence is the conduit between the tactical/operational and strategic initiatives in the Distribution Organization. This position requires a leader that can facilitate and drive change in a “ever changing” environment leveraging his/her strong interpersonal and influencing skills. leads the overall direction for corporate logistics to assure the best value and lowest cost customer order fulfillment, as well as product and material movement utilizing various modes of transportation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Coordinates, leads and is responsible for the overall productivity agenda across distribution center inventory fulfillment, warehousing and modes of transportation/freight movement including truck load, partial truck, direct to customer delivery, less -than- truckload (LTL), parcel, and international freight.
• Responsible for the training/coaching of Operational Excellence Leaders at the local plant level.
• Focus on driving improvements in revenue and driving cost out of the business through more effective processes, elimination of non-value added or duplicate efforts, waste, and other related defects in the process.
• Perform education to pillar teams and steering committee.
• Coach and assist plants in their Zero Loss Thinking and Analysis
• Execute LSS Belt projects to deliver hard cost savings
• Responsible for the training/coaching of Operational Excellence at the local plant level
• Champions logistics and warehousing best practices developed through continuous improvement. Leads distribution center and logistics team projects, supports department project teams and recommends management solutions/concepts regarding network design and improvements to inventory control practices.
• Directs and maintains business process standards across company DC operations including inventory receipts, put-away, pick, pack, ship, inventory management (including cycle counting) and general logistics. Monitors compliance of DC locations to implement practices aligned with standards.
• Promotes innovative network design strategies including strategic partnerships with transportation-logistics service providers to optimize corporate strategies.
• Maintains awareness of financial transactions, ensures that projects are in line with their allotted budgets, and establishes while also maintains negotiated rates with carriers and other service providers.
• Reports performance of company logistical processes & KPIs (Cost of transportation, Order cycle times, Cost per pound, Cost per Unit, Distribution Cost as % of Sales, Cost per Mile, Cost per Package, etc.)
• Maintains relationships by working closely with individuals and teams inside and outside of the company. Builds partnerships with suppliers to obtain the best value for the company while maintaining integrity.
• Works as a liaison between the corporate supply chain team, production operations, sales, and DC operations’ teams to ensure alignment of strategic initiatives and execution of transportation and logistics.
• Mentors and develops direct reports and cross-departmental team members in logistics. Actively participates in the success of direct reports’ responsibilities, encourages and leads reports to target levels of work ethic, morale and productivity while achieving customer expectations.
• Demonstrates a management mindset grounded by WSC corporate safety culture. Assures safety is incorporated in plans and strategies.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, Operations Management, or Logistics
• Minimum of 10 years of industry or similar experience involving distribution and transportation with process improvement experience.
• Knowledge of ERP and other related logistics systems (Transportation Management Systems (TMS), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Network Modeling).
• Lean Certifications: Black belt or Master Black Belt Agile related certification, SAFE Program Consultants Certification
• Experience using business intelligence software. Skilled in advanced EXCEL and Microsoft Office product usage.
• Knowledge of warehouse operations tools including hand-held ERP technology, hand-held scanners, printers.
• Previously demonstrated leadership experience.

PHYSICAL WORK REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds occasionally
• Ability to stand/bend/walk or sit for long periods of time depending upon day to day requirements.
• Ability to travel regularly or as needed. (up to 50%).
