Overview

The Manufacturing Engineer Intern or Co-op will perform a variety of engineering activities at WSC. This can encompass continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, and quality assurance projects to improve manufacturing operations, and to enhance WSC’s competitiveness in the global arena. This position combines a strong foundation in manufacturing systems and processes, supply chain / quality / project and operations management to develop and improve manufacturing processes for this industry-leading manufacturer and distributor of quality building materials.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  (not limited to)

  • Improves manufacturing efficiency and effectiveness by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
  • Recommend and implement improvements or modifications for manufacturing processes, equipment utilization, and related matters.
  • Develops manufacturing processes by studying product requirements
  • Confer with other engineers to clarify and resolve problems
  • Investigate and resolve work-in-process problems
  • Monitor operations to assure compliance
  • Performs other duties as assigned that would lead to successful operation of department, team and/or company mission

Qualifications

A PRODUCTION INTERN OR CO-OP WILL POSSESS AND DEMONSTRATE:

  • A fundamental understanding of Lean Principles, Problem Solving Skills, and Manufacturing Processes
  • Must have the ability to work both alone and in a group
  • Ability to manage multiple demands while maintaining solid communication skills both verbally and with technology
  • Ability to maintain positive moral within the workforce
  • Enthusiasm and have a positive approach to problem-solving

 

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Industrial Management field
  • Candidate must be actively enrolled in an accredited University

 

WORKING DEMANDS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • 40 hours per week, working 8am-5pm

 

REPORTS TO:  Manufacturing Engineer Manager
