Overview

The Product Test Engineer will perform a variety of engineering activities at Waudena Entrance Systems, a business unit of WSC. The duties include but are not limited to product development, product testing, and codes and compliance certifications to enhance WSC’s competitiveness in the global arena. This position combines a strong foundation of product development, codes and compliance knowledge in fenestration business, and applied testing to new and existing building products.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  (not limited to)

  • Subject matter expert on fenestration codes and compliance and emerging trends and regulations.
  • Active membership and participation in the top compliance councils such as NFRC 
  • Future state planning out 5 years for product adherence to emerging trends
  • Coordinate and perform Testing to code and compliance of products. Create the infrastructure and documentation needed.
  • Lead in Product development and new product launch process.  
  • Maintain an engineering change notice process for product needs
  • Product life Management- Product lifecycle and document maintenance.  
  • Design for Manufacturability, DFMA
  • Field performance and product safety  
  • Participation and possible leadership roles in moderate project-level assignments within responsible product family and/or initiative set forth by design / market / manufacturing strategy. 

 

Qualifications

A PRODUCT TESTING ENGINEER WILL POSSESS AND DEMONSTRATE:

  • A fundamental understanding of Lean Principles, Problem Solving Skills, and Manufacturing Processes

  • A subject matter expert in the fenestration codes and compliance area
  • Ability to manage multiple demands while maintaining solid communication skills both verbally and especially by e-mail
  • Ability to maintain positive moral within the workforce
  • Enthusiasm and have a positive approach to problem-solving

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • BS in Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering or equivalent technology degree from an accredited university.
  • 1-3 years of experience in Engineering / Manufacturing with focus on product design and development process 
  • Experience applied in the fenestration industry a plus windows, doors, glass code compliance / product testing (AAMA/ASTM), impact development, product development, applying strength of materials and use of CAD and modeling tools a must; AutoCAD, Solid Works, Inventor- preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to manage mid-level projects 
  • Ability to work solely and with cross functional teams in the organization
  • Must be able to organize, plan, present and facilitate projects and organizational goals
  • MS Office computer skills are essential, database development and management are a plus 
  • Self-starter with sound written and oral communication skills 

 

Work Demands: 

  • Job requires 5-10 % Travel.
  • This position will hold a 50% split of office vs shop floor duties.
