Overview

A Business Development Specialist (BDS) will be responsible for supporting and growing existing business relationships and gaining market share with strategic customers for Wausau Supply Co (WSC).  A BDS will guide and service specified accounts and vendors to Wausau Supply and ensure those customers have an unmatched industry experience.  They will also work with the Regional Sales Manager of these accounts to develop the appropriate action that is needed to defend existing business as well as gain new business.  A BDS will need to achieve set company sales & growth goals while maintaining positive/profitable relations.

Responsibilities

WSC BDS duties to include (not limited to):

  • Manage a book of business to include multiple strategic customers, vendor programs, and their performance.
  • Identify customer needs and provide solutions to meet their requirements.
  • Increase assigned customer sales executing personal and company sales initiatives.
  • Communicate regularly with assigned customers to maintain relationships and identify new opportunities for future sales.
  • Assist in preparing customer programs. Managing each program from start to finish and provide regular progress updates to Regional Manager.
  • Increase revenue with assigned customers by being a solutions provider to the customer, continually selling existing product lines, and by introducing new products.
  • Identify and solicit new business opportunities.
  • Promote and help increase website usage (Storefront/Configurator).
  • Work, nurture, and qualify leads generated from website, emerging markets, and trade shows.
  • Effectively and creatively navigate all resources to gain the knowledge base needed to problem solve and grow.
  • Clearly communicate feature and benefits of applicable products and services in terms the customer will understand, while considering regional and industry terminology.
  • Attend sales meetings, customer functions, contractor events, trade shows, and all other events as assigned.
  • Communicate effectively with the Sales Management team on a regular basis.
  • Complete all sales reports on time and accurately. Utilizing CRM system to document and track sales process.
  • Support other aspects of the WSC Business Development team (BDA, BDS, BDC).
  • Work effectively with internal departments (warranty, customer service, and accounting) to help provide a positive customer experience.
  • Compliance with all company safety initiatives and Safety Observations to meet company goals.

Qualifications

A WSC BDS will possess and/or demonstrate the ability to:

  • Above average verbal & written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet communicated sales goals.
  • Display professional behavior to all internal and external contacts in conjunction with policies and procedures as outline in the employee handbook.
  • General working knowledge of residential construction.
  • Strong people skills needed in order to developing and sustaining relationships that would result in advanced sales of our key products.
  • Be able to abstract market information.
  • Independent decision-making skills and initiative.

 

Education / Experience:

  • High School Diploma, College Degree and/or 3-5 years of related sales experience.
  • Microsoft Office Suite knowledge base, any sale reporting software knowledge is a plus.
  • Highly developed planning and organizational abilities.

 

Reports to: Business Development Manager

 

Working Demands / Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time at a desk with continuous phone calls.
  • Flexibility relative to hours as occasional need for travel.
