Wausau Supply Company manufactures and distributes premium building materials from coast to coast. Our territory continues to expand as we continuously strive to meet the demands of our customers with nineteen distribution centers and five manufacturing and finishing facilities.

Responsibilities

Summary:  A Distribution Lead is responsible for performing all tasks involved in the distribution of WSC, products while following standard work methods and practice safe work habits to ensure production is as efficient and safe as possible.  A lead is a cross functional role responsible for a team or practice and service as an informal leader to such a team.  A Distribution Lead is a developmental position a position scope which assists with developing future leaders at a distribution center or other supporting WSC department.   

Duties to include: (but not limited to):

  • Leads a team of employees or has responsibility for a key functional area of a large distribution center with the responsibility of assuring goals are accomplished supporting day to day operations and department goals. Is flexible and able to shift from one functional area or team as necessary to cover needs and allow for the personal development specific to learning more operational aspects of a distribution center.
  • Collaborates on a regular basis with the DC management team up to daily to review goals and special assignments, receive direction and coaching.
  • Serves as a back up in the absence of a DC supervisor or other leadership figure associated with the operation.
  • Is a key stake holder in assuring key warehouse duties are performed such as replenishing stock pick and storage locations, as well as keeps tabs on organization and locating products and materials within a distribution center or production facility.
  • Responsible for movement of materials from receiving areas and overflow locations to proper bin locations
  • Perform and oversee tasks associated with loading trucks which include forklift operations
  • Act as a mentor to those employees and team members of which has been assigned to assure continuity of established procedures and best practices.
  • Attach appropriate labels, documents, tags to products and/or packages
  • Support the needs of the operation to include all warehouse activities within the distribution center operation.
  • Notify management of any equipment, mechanical or material issues
  • Maintain a clean safe work area and serve as a safety leader and advocate by assuring safe practices and procedures are being performed by all employees.
  • Serves as a trained trainer for new on boarding of distribution employees or trainer for adjusted procedures impacting the department or DC operation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Distribution Lead - Demonstrates:

  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with a diverse team as a warehouse leader.
  • Ability to identify, analyze and solve problems.
  • Strong math skills and ability use math in decision making.
  • Detail oriented and regard safety, service, quality and cost as driving decision making factors.
  • Ability to work as part of a team both within the operation and cross departmentally.

 

Education / Experience:

  • High school diploma and 1-2 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience working in a distribution center operation.

 

Working Demands / Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50-75 pounds at those times when assistance is needed on the distribution floor.
  • Ability to work a fixed schedule with overtime hours likely during peak times of the business year with an average workday of up to 8-10 hours/day on a 1st or 2nd shift.
